So whether you’re hammering off the front, smashing an Ironman course, or laying down maximum wattage in the dash to the finish line, the Giro Vanquish shapes the wind to work for you. Designed to manipulate airflow, a weight-saving in-mould process enabled Giro to optimise their design to be exceptionally aerodynamic and breathable. Strong, impact damping and light, the protective EPS foam liner is bonded to a four-piece polycarbonate shell that has been shaped and optimised with TransformAir technology and ten wind tunnel vents. Improving riding efficiency and shaving seconds off your personal bests, the TransformAir 'cliff' effectively manipulates airflow to reduce drag and improve aerodynamics. Four generously sized indentations are also positioned on the underside of the front of the helmet — in between the expanded polystyrene liner and your forehead — to help bring in more cooling air, especially around the browpad to help prevent sweat from dripping down into your face. At that time the helmet was the only change to my equipment. What I can say is that there was never any time when I was wishing I was wearing another helmet for performance reason. And that is a pretty good endorsement in my book.

According to Giro, the compact aero outer carapace is the slipperiest helmet it’s made in terms of all-angle aero. Plus although the centre strip is solid there’s a surprising amount of vents (I count 17 in total, though Giro says 14) across the front and around the sides.
