This book starts off very slowly, with an opening chapter regarding the meeting of Benny and Eve (the main characters of the novel). Even now, new stage adaptations of her books are being written to delight audiences who can’t get enough of her intimate portrayals of women. Gillianren is a forty-something bipolar woman living in the Pacific Northwest after growing up in Los Angeles County. As other's Maeve writing, it's all details that we feel we really in their circle of friends in Ireland. Although Binchy throws in many plot twists, they aren’t so extreme that it gives the story the feeling of being exaggerated for effect.

Eve Malone, Benny's great friend from convent school, is the smart one; she's an orphan, the misbegotten child of a village handyman and the daughter of a local blue blood.There is some strong criticism of the Church and the rifts it causes in a woman's life as she tries to reconcile her faith/upbringing with the urges of her body.

It’s sweet and charming and wholesome, even if, again, it hamstrings Benny in some ways that really annoy me.

But trouble is brewing for Benny and Eve's new circle of friends, and before long, they find passion, tragedy - and the independence they yearned for.

For a while she lives her fairy tale but unlike a fairy tale this one does not end happily ever after. I think the main reason she’s my favorite is because her character development is so relatable and honestly inspiring.Sometimes, I felt the author seemed to tempt me with some kind of worthy 3-dimensional character in Nan or Benny, only to have that snatched away by a scene that portrayed them as inconsistent or backward from how I had pictured them.
