About this deal

The primary use was starting my wood burning stove, but I also used it to light a couple of fires on cold nights. Overall this is possibly the easiest firestarter to use, but suffers a couple of setbacks because of that. Aspen is a much cleaner petrol with a lot of additives taken out of it,it doesn't smell as bad as unleaded and doesn't clog up stoves. I have used Coghlan’s Fire Paste on approximately eight backpacking trips of 2-5 days in temperatures ranging from 10 degrees to 90 degrees.

Based in York, North Yorkshire Hot Box ® Stoves limited provide turnkey stove installation services across Yorkshire and beyond.

I did not use this paste as a stove primer since I don’t usually bring a gas stove, so my rating and review is for use as a firestarter. It contains petroleum distillates and ethyl alcohol, so care needs to be taken to not get it in eyes or ingest, and it may irritate the skin.

After the cube was spread across a fuel source, it could be ignited by pulling a tab on the igniter. Angel Fire Flame Paste is best extinguished by smothering the container and starving the paste of oxygen. I dip the end of a stick in it then light the stick and use that flame to quickly get the stove going (Caldera Ti Tri Sidewinder with Inferno). The flame can be extinguished by blowing the flame out, however the greater the burning surface area, the more difficult it becomes. Just seems to help dispersing the flame (heat needed to start whatever kindling you’re using)… maybe makes it burn a touch slower from lack of direct oxygen vs vaporized (ready to combust) chemicals… Handy to start fires without the whoosh of the other stuff, plus portable if other stuff isn’t around or with you.If the item comes direct from a manufacturer, it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as a plain or unprinted box or plastic bag. More paste squeezed out does not seem to last much longer as it just makes a longer width flame, but a larger diameter “glob” does seem to burn longer. The paste, once squeezed from its tube, can be placed on virtually any surface, including ice and wet wood.

In addition, the cans of chafing fuel have a clearly visible flame, unlike methylated spirits, for example. Our freshness guarantee applies to our cheese, which is freshly cut and vacuum-sealed for 7-8 weeks of shelf life. As far as fire starting, I remember a trip to the West Rim Trail at the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania (in central PA). Find the best safety gear for your next outdoor adventure using our independent reviews and ratings. It a paste, roughly the consistency of tooth paste, that only requires a tiny amount to get a fire going in any weather condition, including (very) heavy rain. When bonding maerial, apply a bead of product to one suface and immediately combine the two parts, applying pressure to ensure good surface contact. I squeeze it in to a small Nalgene container (clearly marked as not food) so as not to take the whole tube.
