About this deal

It was evident that Kim wasn't a cold-hearted woman, despite the armour that she wore, and this just made me love her all the more.

I've read every book by this author and I always end by saying it's my new favourite and this one is no exception. After writing women's fiction, Angela turned to crime -- fictionally speaking, of course -- and developed a character that refused to go away. Twists and turns galore, with a dark and unstoppable force hidden behind them, it truly was a book that had the power to raise goosebumps on your skin. Just the perfect amount of secrecy and mystery surrounded Kim, and I knew that once these walls that she'd build around herself finally fell away, the person within would be fantastic, and that she was, readers.Amongst my Goodreads friends I have only seen good comments on this author's books so I had to give her a try, starting with the first book in the series of course. I loved the way the author describes people: “The wrinkles in his forehead did not revert to a resting position and judging by their depth she guessed this guy had been born pissed off.

Sembra il frutto di una ricetta: prendi 200 grammi di moralismo, lo mescoli con mezzo litro di spirito ribelle, un pizzico di pseudo-humor, una spruzzata di immaturità… e voilà! Where I think Angela Marsons managed to do this is with her intense characters, especially Detective Inspector Kim Stone.

As each victim is assessed, Stone’s team finds one thing in common; they had been employed at a children’s home now empty and abandoned. I found myself biting my nails numerous times… to say that this book is brilliant is an understatement. If you don’t show all of this, but you just give me the conclusion (because the detective deduces things outside the book), how can I feel the story?

After reading books five and six in this series and loving them, I'm finally getting chance to go back and start at the beginning. She is a fantastic creation, her team respect her, she doesn't bow down to office politics, she is for the victims, she will get them justice! I feel it only fair to warn prospective readers that there were scenes in this novel that were VERY disturbing – the stuff of nightmares. Silent Scream touches upon a complex subject – children left to the ‘system’ when every one in their lives has left or abandoned them – and the actions of adults who were supposed to protect them but ultimately let them down, choosing self gratification, greed and self preservation instead.I also like that there is a balance between the crime investigation process and the character portrayal.
